Scarborough
Downs Harness Racetrack offers exciting harness racing in a season
that typically takes place from March to December.
It
is the largest and most active racetrack in the state of Maine and
is home to New England's fastest half-mile track. The track was designed
by Charles Coon and Sons, and has drawn rave reviews by horsemen throughout
its fast-paced history.
Located at U.S. Route One in the picturesque town of Scarborough,
Maine, eight miles from Portland, it is entering its 52nd year
of business and has established itself as a prime landmark.
The largest attendance ever recorded at Scarborough Downs was on 29
June 1980 when 9,133 people showed up for the races. The largest handle
ever recorded was $507,649 registered on 6 September 1987.
